But then, lets look at the flip side of this. This world has turned so crazy, that now even something that was supposed to be positive is seemingly negative and as sad as this is it's something that should be addressed.
1) Skinny shaming. This really makes me mad. I've never been a skinny girl, but I have friends of both genders who have genuinely really struggled with being skinny all their lives, and have finally learnt to love their bodies just the same way larger framed girls have finally been able to. Then, a lot of these thin girls join the #strongnotskinny lifestyle and are getting constantly slated on social media, being made to feel like they aren't good enough. I've seen comments telling girls they're disgusting, they should be ashamed of themselves, they should go eat some pies.. the list goes on. It's disrespectful and nasty that people talk in this way. Everyone starts somewhere and whether these girls are naturally skinny or have been previously unwell with weight, we should be encouraging everyone to be FIT no matter what their age, size, gender...
2) Arrogance.
Now don't get me wrong, I think its fantastic when people lose body fat, gain muscle and find a new confidence in themselves they never had before. It's great to see and the radiance they feel reflects on others and it makes a fantastic society full of strong, confident individuals, but why do people have to ruin it by going too far? I know so many girls who lose a bit of weight or start using the gym and suddenly think their better than everyone, calling everyone they see fat/ugly and it makes me so angry! Good for you for being fit and healthy and making a decision to change, but at one point you were in the same position as those who have not yet chosen to change their lifestyle. You should be encouraging not putting people down. (plus endless selfies in gym wearing next to nothing and a full face of make up just irritates me - you're at the gym again we get it, go sweat or something)
3) Lack of balance.
Yes, being fit and healthy is a life choice and therefore you have to maintain the lifestyle choices to see results. But going to the gym 4 times a day and not even allowing yourself one malteaser occasionally isn't healthy and isn't maintainable. Life's about having treats and living it fully - do you really want to be 90 years old on your death bed wishing you'd eaten that burger?!
4) Unrealistic expectations.
Celebrities give unrealistic expectations by photo shopping their bodies to the max. Not only that, but they have make up artists, numerous surgeries, hair extensions that cost a bomb and photographers who know the perfect angle/lighting etc. Celebrities aren't perfect, and girls and boys should stop basing their 'perfect body' on this. Some of the reality stars we see, their full time job is pretty much getting fit and dieting so don't try and keep up with them! Not only that, but we have unrealistic expectations of ourselves. Saying you're going to get a 6 pack in 6 weeks when you've still got a layer of Christmas bulge is unrealistic and sets you up for a fall. You don't need 'goals' as such, just see where your journey takes you, and enjoy the changes your body makes in the process. You can't put the pressure on yourself or your body, ENJOY IT!What I guess i'm trying to say here, is that you should do what makes you happy and not worry about anyone else. Embrace the body you have, work for the one you want and just enjoy life. Life is too short to sit around thinking you're too fat/too thin/not good enough. Anything could happen in this world and your body image shouldn't define your life. Enjoy the journey you take in life, eat healthy and stay active. It shouldn't be #strongnotskinny it should just be #strong
